Re:Ryanair-Chef: «Es wird in diesem Winter Pleiten geben»

Die Standzeiten werden sich dadurch nur geringfügig verdoppeln. ;)

Air India gründet neue LCC-Airline

Air India to launch budget airline late 2004

BOMBAY, India - India's flag-carrier Air India will launch a no-frills, low-budget airline service called Air India Express later this year, a government minister said on Monday.

Federal Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told reporters in Bombay that the service would cost an average 25 per cent less than the normal Air India fare.

'The Air India board decided on Saturday to start a low-cost airline service to meet the growing needs of the budget-conscious traveller,' said Mr Patel.

The service would be launched on routes that Air India does not currently operate. It would include the Gulf and Southeast Asia, said Mr Patel, who did not specify the locations.

'We'll only provide a snack, tea or coffee on these routes, there won't be anything more than that,' he said.

Six aircraft would initially be part of the service, which would later be expanded to 14 aircraft.

Ryanair to boost capacity with new hubs

Jane Suiter

RYANAIR, Europes biggest low-fares airline, is to add two new European hubs, boosting capacity by 16%, by the end of the year as part of its strategy to drive out the competition.

Ryanair is looking at six airports as part of its expansion plans. These include: Liverpool and East Midlands in Britain, both of which are used by EasyJet; Bordeaux and Carcassonne in France; Hamburg in Germany which is serviced by Hapag-Lloyd, a low-fares German competitor; Prague in the Czech Republic; and a new airport at Madrid in Spain.

easyJet announces big Gatwick expansion

New routes to Budapest, Murcia, Cologne, Rome, and Venice - and more routes from Gatwick than any other London airport!

easyJet has today outlined the next stage in its ongoing expansion plans at London's Gatwick Airport, resulting in at least an additional eight services each day.

Over the course of the next few months, easyJet will add frequencies to a number of existing routes and start new services to wholly-new destinations.

In September, easyJet will:

Start services to Budapest and Cologne
Increase frequency to Madrid to two flights per day
In November, easyJet will:

Start services to Rome and Venice
Increase frequency to Cologne to two flights per day
In February, easyJet will:

Start services to Murcia
Increase frequency to Geneva to five flights per day
Seats will go on sale here at easyJet.com in the coming days - stand-by for something special when they do! Make sure you've registered to receive our email alerts to be among the first to find out the details.

easyJet is also in the planning stage to put more services into Gatwick, the results of which will be announced very shortly.

Ray Webster, easyJet Chief Executive, said:

"I am very excited to be announcing new routes and increased frequencies from Gatwick as it marks the next step in our continued, planned expansion from the airport. Taking into account the services we announced today, easyJet will have grown some 40% year on year at London Gatwick.

"Once the new services commence to Budapest, Murcia, Cologne, Rome and Venice, we will fly to more destinations from Gatwick than from any other base on the easyJet network - including Stansted and Luton.

"The fact that we can start five new routes and add only a single new point to the network underlines why we put so much emphasis on network density and the joining-the-dots element of our growth strategy."

JEDDAH, 22 June 2004
The UAE national budget airline Air Arabia has made its inaugural flight to Saudi Arabia. They landed in Jeddah on Sunday and in Dammam yesterday. The third, to Riyadh, follows today.

Air Arabias Chairman Sheikh Abdullah ibn Mohammed Al-Thani and Chief Executive Officer Adel Ali told reporters on arrival in Jeddah that flying to the Kingdom was a major achievement for the region first low-cost carrier. The airline is delighted to start operations to the Kingdom. We would like to thank the Kingdom and its aviation authorities for their role in facilitating our operations and their cooperation in making this possible, Al-Thani said. He added Air Arabia is committed to enabling passengers who have not been able to afford air travel in the past to start traveling throughout the region and help others do it more frequently.

Flights from Sharjah to Jeddah operate two days a week Wednesday and Sunday. A one-way ticket from Sharjah to Jeddah starts from 600 dirhams, excluding government taxes, with similar fares available for the return trip.

Following the example of other budget airlines, fares are lowest the further in advance the flight is booked, rising as the plane fills up.

The Sharjah-owned carrier is currently flying from Sharjah to Bahrain, Beirut, Damascus, Kuwait, Muscat, Alexandria, Assiut, Aleppo, Doha, Khartoum and Colombo. Were working on plans to extend our services to the subcontinent by year-end, Adel Ali said.

Mallya to start budget airline

A new low-cost carrier is being readied by liquor baron Vijay Mallya. Christened Kingfisher Air by the UB Group chairman, who will be filing for scheduled carrier status next week with the director general of civil aviation, the no frills airline will fly on all national routes.

Mallya told the Hindustan Times, Aviation is in our blood, UB Air has been around for ever so long. Remember that I fly my own Boeing 727. I am looking at the entire gamut of operations associated with aviation from ground handling to soaring into the skies in our own aircraft.

Mallya also confirmed that he had a preliminary meeting with civil aviation minister Praful Patel who was most supportive and wanted the civil aviation to grow with the entry of quality players.

Mallya, who owns a Boeing 727, a Gulfstream III and a Hawker Siddley 125, is studying various
options as far as the fleet is concerned.

He said, I am clear that we will require eight Airbus 320 in the first round when we launch by the year end. Whether we will go in for outright purchase or lease them is part of the ongoing dialogue with Airbus. There are several options before us hich we are exploring.

Mallya reckons that over the years, his group has pumped in hundreds of crores in building brand equity around the Kingfisher brand. Now, as he says, is the time to reap what he has sown. Kingfisher, according to him, is a lifestyle statement and it is time to take the big leap with it. As he said, I have examined all the issues before leaping into the deep end. We are looking at an initial investment of Rs 150 crore which will be scaled up as we go along.

Buoyed by the success of the no- frills Air Deccan, Mallya wants to make his operation as attractive as possible. Eight Airbus 320 in the first round is an extremely large fleet size. Each Airbus 320 is normally configured to seat 150 passengers . Indian Airlines fleet has 41 Airbus 320s.
