Re:Sommer 2006 Rumor Ecke
I think that the long-term potential for AA at ZRH is in jeopardy. I'm certain that LH will force LX to disband the codeshare with AA, as well as tighten the terms of their prorate agreement for connecting traffic. Thus, the high percentage of connecting traffic which the DFW/JFK-ZRH flights have relied upon will essentially dry up.
If I were AA, I'd take those two equivalent aircraft units and move them to MUC. It's a larger catchment area market than ZRH, and though it's an LH hub, the MUC-JFK market is now exclusively served by LH. LH's single daily flight departs MUC around 1500 and JFK around 2030. Thus, if AA provided a 763 departing JFK around 1800 and departing MUC around 1100 on a yearround basis, I bet the flight would do very well. DL and CO cxld their MUC-JFK/EWR flights a couple of years ago.
In addition to the daily JFK-MUC flight, AA could offer daily nonstop DFW-MUC service (during the IATA summer season, i.e. March-October). If the traffic grew significantly, the service could be made daily, yearround.
My 2-cents worth...
