Two new low-cost airlines, Backpackers Xpress and Leisurejet, are set to challenge Qantas's long-held monopoly as the only Australian carrier in the long-haul market, with plans to launch budget services on the "kangaroo route" to Europe later this year.
Backpackers Xpress applied for approval from the International Air Services Commission to operate 747 flights three times weekly between Melbourne and Bangkok, Delhi and Manchester and twice weekly between Melbourne and Bangkok, Delhi and Munich. The move places the airline on a collision course with Qantas, which recently sought permission for an extra seven services per week between Australia and London and for the 2,100 seats per week presently available to India so it can resume services to Mumbai.
Mal sehen, ob das klappt
