Aena has planned a phased relocation of companies to T1 throughout 2009. This group will concentrate on 30% of flights operating in the T1. The second alliance that will use the terminal, designed by Ricardo Bofill, in late September, will be One World, which is British Airways with Iberia, American Airlines and Japan Airlines, among others.

In its first day of operation, the T1 will support 240 flights carrying 30,050 passengers with up to 17,730 bags, according to estimates. This volume of traffic represents a quarter of all activity carried out that day. When the three major alliances are in the new terminal at the end of the year, this percentage will reach 80%.
In the current facilities, which will be called T2 (with blocks T2A, T2b and T2c), are companies that provide point to point flights, mainly to Europe and northern Africa but could operate intercontinental flights.
