Info this week's TTG (Travel Trade Gazette) in the UK ... great news for GLA!

Scottish no-frills airline Flyglobespan is to launch a daily service
from Glasgow to Boston, and is looking for code-share partners to
spread its reach further into the US.

Flyglobespan will start the service on May 28 next year, offering
business, premium economy and no-frills seats.

Flights will depart Glasgow at 11.00, arriving in Boston at lunchtime.
The return flight will leave Boston at about 18.00, arriving in Glasgow
at 07.00. The carrier will use a Boeing 767-300.

The service will carry about 255 people, with 40-50 seats in premium
economy.
Passengers choosing not to order a meal can opt to go "no-frills".
Seat pitches will range from 30 inches to 50 inches for sleeper seats.

The move comes at a time when some North American airlines have been
cutting transatlantic links to Scotland.

LCCs are driving global aviation growth, according to an OAG special report released in advance of the Routes Development Forum in Dubai and the World Low Cost Airlines Congress in London taking place later this month. Capacity on low-cost carriers has more than doubled in just four years. This month, budget airlines plan to fly more than 46 million seats on more than 323,000 flights compared with 22 million seats on 169,000 flights in September 2002. The volume of low-cost flights worldwide is 14% higher than a year ago, with 16% more capacity.
LCCs, accounting for 17% of all scheduled seats on sale worldwide, now operate about 14% of all flights. They operate 18% of scheduled flights in Europe and the US, a figure that has been static in the US for the past three years. In the Asia/Pacific region, LCCs operate 10% of all flights, up from 6% one year ago. They offer 26% of all scheduled seats in the US, 24% in Europe and 9% in the Asia/Pacific.

Germanwings to commence operations to Malta

http://www.maltamedia.com/news/2005/tt/article_11419.shtml

Germanwings, a German major low-cost airline, will start operations to Malta in March 2007, according to Malta International Airport. The airline will fly to Malta from two of its bases in Germany, these being Cologne and Stuttgart, with two weekly flights from each airport, one on Tuesday and another on Saturday.

Through this link Maltese travellers will have more options, at considerably low fares.

Besides the introduction of two new regions in Germany, passengers will also be able to purchase tickets to destinations such as Edinburgh, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo and St. Petersburg, all of which are served by Germanwings through their Cologne base.

Likewise, the new routes will serve to attract more German tourists to Malta.

In a statement, Malta International Airport added that Germanwings has confirmed its operation throughout the summer season 2007 until the end of October in view to pursuing an all-year-round operation after this period. The airline sells seats exclusively online and as from 1st September 2006 it has launched its selling of seats to and from Malta at prices starting from LM 8.17c (US$ 24.28c,€19) one-way.

On Monday Minister for Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech announced that the government accepted all bids submitted in response to the call for low cost carriers to operate new routes to Malta. Bids were submitted by two companies, easyJet and Ryanair.

Dabei mussten wegen in Großbritannien kurzfristig gestiegener Sicherheitsvorkehrungen sogar 265 Flüge entfallen.
