Fraport Out Of Budapest Airport Race
Frankfurt airport operator Fraport is no longer in the running in the competition to buy a stake in Hungary's Budapest Airport, a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
Britain's BAA or Germany's Hochtief is expected to be chosen to take a stake of 75 percent minus one share in Hungary's largest international airport, with BAA currently in the lead, the source said.
"You can assume that Fraport won't win," the source said. "BAA will probably win."
A deal worth almost USD$2 billion for the controlling stake in Budapest Airport is expected to be announced around December 8.
Budapest's daily newspaper, Nepszabadsag, reported on Friday that BAA had submitted the highest bid, offering more than 400 billion forints (USD$1.68 billion).
In a previous tender, Hochtief made the highest offer of 390 billion forints but the process was cancelled when a court declared the tender invalid.
Privatization agency APV later relaunched the tender with five bidders and three submitted bids.
