IBERIA DECIDES TO ORDER 79 NEW AIRCRAFT FOR THE RENEWAL OF SHORT AND MEDIUM HAUL FLEET

The agreement includes 30 firm orders and 49 options
The aircraft will be delivered between 2006 and 2011
It is the greatest fleet renewal of Iberia’s history
The new aircraft have a lower fuel consumption and imply a reduction of maintenance costs

Madrid, 25th February 2005

Iberia has decided today the acquisition of up to 79 new aircraft of the Airbus A320 family to renew its short and medium haul fleet.

The agreement includes 30 firm acquisitions and 49 options. In the first case there will be 15 Airbus A318, nine A320 and six A321. The delivery period of the aircraft, firm and options, will be from 2006 to 2011.

These new aircraft will replace 19 MD-87, 13 MD-88, 7 Boeing 757 and the oldest Airbus A320.

Total aircraft catalogue price amounts to more than $4,500 million, over which the Company has obtained important discounts.

This agreement is the greatest one ever decided by Iberia, overcoming the contract signed in 1998 also for the short and medium haul renewal that included the incorporation of up to 76 aircraft (50 firm and 26 options) of the Airbus A320 family.

Advantages and opportunities for Iberia

With this fleet renewal, Iberia will have a unique model of short and medium haul aircraft, the family Airbus A320, with four different sizes to adapt to each market (between 120 and 200 passengers). This will give flexibility and lead to an improvement of both aircraft and crew productivity. Likewise, the need of spare parts, time and costs of crew training will be reduced. Finally, the new aircraft have lower fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

The negotiation of the fleet renewal in this moment has led Iberia to take advantage of the current situation, with a strong euro against the dollar, low interest rates and a strong competition between the manufacturers.

Iberia has obtained financial support from Airbus that will allow the financing of an important part of these aircraft under operating lease. Thus, thanks to the economic and financial conditions of the agreement, Iberia will be able to compete with the low cost carriers in the short and medium haul with the same or better fleet costs. On the other hand, the Company will have a high degree of flexibility in the short and medium haul to continue to quickly adapt to the evolution of the markets.

The negotiation process has been characterized by a strong competition and professionalism, which Iberia wants to highlight and thank to both manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing. The fleet renewal is a constant process and the Company will have to face the selection of future long haul aircraft, being Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 the most interesting options.

Finally, it is worth noting that Iberia will have to take the decision about the engines that will equip these aircraft among the models CFM (General Electric and SNECMA), IAE (Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney and others) or Pratt & Whitney (in the case of the A318)

Flight International 03/01/05:

"Taiwanese carrier questions the financial viability of the 772LR on ultra-long-haul services."

According to Lee Jen-Ling, Deputy Senior V.P. Corporate Planning, "...the airline is still evaluating whether ultra-long-haul services are financially viable....whether there would be sufficient demand for such services, or whether one-stop service would be better financially." The example cited by Ms. Jen-Ling is Taipei/New York.

According to the article EVA could switch it's order to the 773ER or 777F, and has until next year to make its decison, as deliveries of its firm order for three 772LRs don't commence until 2008.

Air France-KLM bestellt weitere Boeing-Maschinen

Dollar. Die Maschinen sollen ab April 2006 ausgeliefert werden.

Aero Asia (Pakistan) is getting its first widebody aircraft. The Boeing 767 is scheduled to enter service between Lahore and destinations in the Gulf area. The airline's fleet is composed of 5 B737s, 3 DC9s and 1 MD83 and plans call for 3 A320s to be acquired.

GoJet Airlines ordered 10 Bombardier CRJ700 regional jets and took options on 40 more for its regional airline service, Bombardier Aerospace said Monday.

The order for 10 jets is valued at $317 million. If the regional airline takes the additional 40 aircraft, the value would be more than $1.6 billion, Montreal-based Bombardier said.

St. Louis-based GoJet, a subsidiary of Trans States Holdings, will operate as a regional feeder for United Airlines. It expects to begin service Aug. 1, pending approval of a federal bankruptcy judge.

St. Louis-based Trans States operates as a regional carrier for AmericanConnection and US Airways Express.

zum a.net thread

Edit: reply 80 ist bemerkenswert

....wenn man das nötige Kleingeld hat......... ::) ;) :)

Airbus liebt (loves, aimes..) Emirates :D :D

GB Airways Expands Airbus Fleet With A320 Family Order

2005-03-31

By: European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V.

GB Airways has signed a contract with Airbus for five Airbus single-aisle Family aircraft: one A320 and four A321s. This is the first time that the airline is acquiring aircraft directly from Airbus. Delivery of these five aircraft is expected from 2007 onwards. The aircraft will be powered by IAE V2500 engines from International Aero Engines.

The airline is an all-Airbus operator, with eleven A320s and three A321s in its fleet today. Three further A321s are expected to join the fleet by Spring 2007. GB Airways, a British Airways franchise partner, received its first A320 in May 2000.

The airline operates flights from its main base in London-Gatwick, and also from London-Heathrow. Last week, the airline started operating from its new base in Manchester. This summer, GB Airways will operate British Airways flights to 30 selected destinations in Gibraltar, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain including the Balearic and Canary islands, and Tunisia.

"This order from an existing Airbus operator is another milestone in the success story of the A320 Family with airlines around the world", said Airbus President and CEO Noël Forgeard. "The GB Airways decision to buy A320 Family aircraft is confirming the aircraft's role as benchmark in this market segment", he added.

"GB Airways has enjoyed steady growth since the introduction of the Airbus fleet in 2000 and has earned a reputation both in the industry and amongst our passengers for operating a young fleet of comfortable, modern aircraft. This new order marks the next stage of the airline's development and clearly demonstrates our commitment to the Airbus A320 Family of aircraft," said John Patterson, GB Airways Managing Director.

The Airbus A320 Family of aircraft consists of the A318, A319, A320 and the A321 types, covering the market segment of aircraft with a seating capacity between just over 100 and more than 200 passengers. All based on the initial A320 design, they offer the highest degree of operational commonality and economy for aircraft in this category. With an optimised cabin cross-section - the widest single-aisle fuselage on the market - this family of aircraft has established itself as the preferred choice with established and low-cost airlines and passengers alike.
