Era adds 2 new planes; sale nears completion

By MARK QUINER
Peninsula Clarion

In an effort to signal company's health, Paul Landis, senior vice president for Era Aviation, said the regional airline is about to purchase two new airplanes, and that a deal to sell the airline is almost complete.

Era, the only regularly scheduled airline serving Kenai Municipal Airport, was sold to Houston-based SEACOR Holdings Inc. last year for $118 million.

SEACOR purchased Era for the helicopter portion of its business and has said it plans to sell the airline portion.

Landis said the sale is close to completion but declined to comment on when it would be complete and who was interested. However, he said there are four or five serious potential buyers.

The pending sale of Era has raised concern from the community about whether the company will continue to serve the Kenai Peninsula.

In a February interview, Landis said Era is not considering leaving the Kenai market.

The new airplanes, two DeHavilland Dash 8s, will bring the company's fleet to 13 airplanes. Landis said the company also will have all nine of its Twin Otter airplanes upgraded by Aug. 31.

"These are indicators of a company that is moving forward," Landis said.

He said there will be no major changes in the company after the sale is complete.

Karen Casanovas, executive director of the Alaska Air Carriers Association, said activity with Era had been quiet, and she had been wondering what was going on with the company.

The Alaska Air Carriers Association is a nonprofit trade organization that promotes the interests of the commercial aviation industry in Alaska.

Casanovas said Era's daily passenger service to the Kenai Peninsula would probably be attractive to a buyer.

"I think that they're looking for the right buyer," she said.

Helvetic reduziert Flotte

AdamAir adds two more planes
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Budget carrier PT Adam SkyConnections Airlines (AdamAir) has added two more Boeing aircraft to its existing fleet of six to help accommodate rising demand.

The airline, which currently serves the Jakarta-Surabaya and Jakarta-Denpasar routes, said in a statement that it needed additional aircraft following its decision to increase its frequency on those routes.

With the additional aircraft, it now flies five times per day to Surabaya, one flight more than before, and four times a day to Denpasar, compared to two flights previously.

"The additional planes are necessary to accommodate increasing demand, as well as to meet our target of increasing our fleet to 15 aircraft by July," AdamAir chief executive officer Gunawan Suherman said in the statement.

AdamAir started its domestic airline operations in December 2003 with Boeing 737-400 and Boeing 737-500 aircraft made between 1997 and 2000

This July, AdamAir plans to deploy seven more planes to serve a number of new routes, including Jakarta-Bengkulu, Jakarta-Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara), Jakarta-Batam (Riau), Jakarta-Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), Jakarta-Ambon (Maluku) and Jakarta-Balikpapan (East Kalimantan).

Later this year, it plans also to establish a number of international routes, such as Jakarta-Singapore, Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, Bandung-Kuala Lumpur, Surabaya-Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar-Singapore.

aus a.net:

I heard a rumour that the South African airline Nationwide is to acquire 2 744s from an Eastern airline. Nationwide currently fly regional and domestic in Southern Africa with 727-100s, 727-200s, 732s and 735s, as well as a couple of times a week to LGW with a 767. This would obviously be a big bold step for them, and quite honestly I was a bit skeptical.

Anyone heard anything about this?

China Eastern Airlines said on Friday it had signed an agreement with Airbus SAS to buy 15 new A320 series aircraft for 6.9 billion yuan (USD$833 million) at list prices.

The 11 A321 and four A320 planes are expected to be delivered from September 2006 to October 2008.

China Eastern said the purchase would improve its aviation network and enhance its competitiveness to cater for the rapid growth in domestic aviation market.

In a separate statement, China Southern Airlines said it had agreed to buy five A380 aircraft from Airbus at a price of around USD$272.6 million each.

The aircraft will be delivered between 2007 and 2010.

Hapag-Lloyd (HF/Hanover) will reportedly lease an A300-600R from Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt).

Confirmed 2 A330´s for MX, yet to see the model and engines, but the planes will arrive, one in december 05 and the other january 06, as part of MX fleet expansion and migration (to an all airbus fleet).

@pecki:

170 175 190 195

Air Canada 15 45
Alitalia 6
Cirrus 1
Copa Panama 10
Finnair 12
GECAS 8
Jet Blue 100
LOT 6
Republic 39
Saudi Arabian 15
Swiss 15 15
TAME 2 1
US Airways 85

TOTAL: 189 15 156 15 = 375 Maschinen

Air Canada's 777 deliveries are scheduled to begin next year with the arrival of three 777-300ERs in 2006. The carrier's first 777-300ERs will operate its Vancouver-Tokyo service. Air Canada's first 787 is scheduled for delivery in 2010.
