Qantas sets December date for fleet decision

Wednesday October 19, 2005 Qantas is due to make its much-anticipated fleet decision between the 787/777 and A340/A350 on Dec. 7.
CEO Geoff Dixon told ATWOnline that the airline will submit on that day a recommendation to the board for the 100-aircraft commitment. Boeing is working with Qantas on an even longer-range 777-200LR to operate nonstop from Sydney to London. It would be configured in an all-business-class arrangement and have a lighter-weight interior.
Dixon said Airbus has advised that its A340-500 is not a contender for the Sydney-London Heathrow route and added that the route is not without its challenges for the 777-200LR.
Meantime, he said the carrier is looking to expand its Australian LCC Jetstar to take over regional international holiday routes from both Qantas and its holiday subsidiary Australian Airlines. The new Jetstar International would be two-class and eventually may fly to the US and Europe.

Aeroflot banks on A321s

Tuesday October 25, 2005 Aeroflot will add seven A321s to its medium-haul fleet, Airbus announced yesterday. Deliveries of the newly ordered aircraft are scheduled to begin in fourth-quarter 2006. Each will feature a two-class cabin configuration seating 170 and will be powered by two CFM56-5s. The aircraft are intended for Aeroflot's Russian and European networks. The carrier already has a significant investment in the A320 family, operating eight A319s, seven A320s and three A321s prior to the new purchase.

Air Canada Completes Boeing Deal
November 9, 2005
Air Canada said on Wednesday it had finally concluded a deal to buy widebody aircraft from Boeing after it reached an agreement with its pilots last week.

The deal had been thrown in jeopardy after a disagreement with pilots last summer over operating issues forced Air Canada to cancel the order, made in April.

On Tuesday, Air Canada said the deal will see the airline buy up to 36 Boeing 777s and up to 60 Boeing 787s.

The agreement includes firm orders for 18 Boeing 777s plus rights to buy 18 more. Delivery of the first six 777 aircraft is due to begin in March 2007.

Kenya Airways Signs for Fourth Boeing 777-200ER; Leases 767-300ER

2005-11-16

By: The Boeing Company

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Kenya Airways today announced planned additions to the airline's fleet with an order for its fourth 777-200ER and an option for a fifth, as well as plans to lease its sixth 767-300ER in 2006. The 777 ordered is scheduled for delivery in 2007.
Kenya Airways was the first carrier to purchase and operate the Boeing 777 in sub-Saharan Africa, which has contributed to the airline's record profitability and ongoing fleet and network expansion. The airline took delivery of its first 777-200ER in 2004 with the second and third of the model type entering service earlier this year.
"Flying passengers to the wide open spaces of the world on our 777s is a unique experience infused with the natural warmth and hospitality of the Kenyan people," said Titus Naikuni, CEO of Kenya Airways.
Kenya Airways currently operates a 21-plane fleet, which includes Boeing 737s, 767s and 777s. The airline also recently announced a lease agreement with Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprises for three 737-800s to be delivered in 2006.
"It's rewarding for us to see Kenya Airways be the region's first airline to take a proven performer like the 777 and reap the benefits of the airplane's superior economics," said Lee Monson, vice president of Sales for The Middle East and Africa.
The latest 777-200ER will join Kenya Airways' three 777s in service on existing routes and to new destinations in Europe, the Far East and Africa. The Boeing 777-200ER is capable of carrying 30 tons of cargo with full passenger loads of 322 people. As with the airline's existing 777s, the new aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce 92,000-pound-thrust Trent 800 engines.
Kenya Airways serves more than 2 million passengers annually and has the largest network into Africa. The carrier is going through an aggressive expansion program and this year's additional destinations include Bamako, Dakar, Maputo, Istanbul and Guangzhou in China. This complements 17 weekly flights to London and Amsterdam and regular schedules to select destinations in Asia, including Dubai, Mumbai, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
"We find the 777-200ER's performance and economics perfectly suited to our business model, and our passengers appreciate the comfort and amenities of the aircraft coupled with our world-class service" said Mr. Naikuni.

Airbus announces $14 billion worth of orders during airshow
23 November 2005

Airbus announced orders and commitments (excluding options) for 157 airliners worth around $14 billion during the Dubai air show. The deals reaffirm Airbus' leading role in the airliner business and reflect an increasingly strong market recovery.

They also take commitments for Airbus' new A350 airliner to 155 - a total that is expected to rise to around 200 by the end of the year.

The sales came from America, Europe and India - as well as the Middle East - highlighting the global success of the modern Airbus aircraft family.

The full breakdown of announcements comprises AerCap for 70 A320 Family aircraft, ALAFCO of Kuwait for twelve A350s, International Lease Finance Corporation of America for 12 A350s, Jazeera Airways of Kuwait for six A320s, Kingfisher Airlines of India for 30 A320 Family aircraft, National Air Service (NAS) of Saudi Arabia for five A318 Elites, TAP Air Portugal for ten A350s and seven A330s, and an undisclosed private customer for five A320 Family aircraft.

Airbus' success is founded on innovative design, which enables it to provide its customers and operators with the most efficient and comfortable product range - from the 100-seat Airbus A318 all the way up to the world’s largest and newest airliner, the double-deck A380.

Airbus is also unique in offering airlines a common cockpit in every single passenger aircraft that it produces today, which makes it easier and quicker for pilots to switch between aircraft types during their career - while saving airlines time and money.

Airbus has booked the most airliner orders in five out of the last six years and, for the third year running, is set to deliver the most aircraft.

Finnair orders four more Embraer aircraft for EUR 100 mln

2.12.2005 at 10:27
Finnair has ordered four 100-seat Embraer 190 jet aircraft from the Brazilian firm, the Finnish flag carrier said in a statement Friday.
The 100-million-euro order comes on top of Finnair's 12-unit Embraer acquisition programme, the statement added. Finnair has four further Embraer options.
Finnair is seeking to replace its ageing McDonnell-Douglas MD-80 narrow-body aircraft by next summer.

Czech government decided today to order 2 A319CJ to replace aging TU154 in governmental fleet. 1st to be delivered in JUL06, second year later. Well seems it is the end of not planned visits of Czech dignitaries, like this year one TU154 with foreign minister Svoboda had to land in NKC, Mauritania, on its way to Argentina due technical failure.

Qantas chooses Boeing for fleet renewal

Qantas chooses Boeing for fleet renewal

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Qantas Airways Ltd. , the world's eighth-biggest airline by market value, said on Wednesday it planned to acquire up to 115 Boeing 787 aircraft for its long-awaited fleet renewal. Qantas did not give a cost for the new fleet, but said the list price for 65 B787s was A$13 billion ($10 billion). The carrier has previously said it expected to spend up to A$20 billion on the new aircraft.

The move by Australia's flag carrier comes amid a record year in aircraft orders for Boeing Co. and Airbus, owned 80 percent by the European Aerospace Defense & Space Co. and 20 percent by Britain's BAE Systems Plc.

The two plane manufacturers have recorded more than $100 billion in orders this year, boosted recently when Airbus won a $10 billion deal to supply 150 single-aisle passenger jets to China.

Airlines have been investing heavily, driven by high fuel prices, new models and the need to keep surging low-fare upstarts at bay.

"This fleet plan will give us a modern fleet offering maximum flexibility, lower seat mile costs and greater fuel efficiency," Qantas Chairman Margaret Jackson said in a statement.

Qantas said Boeing had designated two engine types for the B787, Rolls Royce and General Electric . Qantas would require up to 145 engines and would start the selection process in 2006.

The airline said it had sought tenders from Airbus and Boeing on ultra-long range variants, but had been unable to find an aircraft that could operate non-stop flights economically between Australia and London and Australia and New York.

Singapore Airlines is also considering taking up to 70 wide-bodied planes for its fleet, industry officials say, in a deal that could be worth up to $10 billion in revenues for the winner.

Qantas' latest fleet investment plan is in addition to A$18 billion it budgeted for fleet renewal between 2000-2010.

Qantas has already ordered 12 A380 superjumbo aircraft, with options for 10 more, to service routes between Australia and the United States and Britain. It also has been taking delivery of Boeing 737-800s to increase this fleet to 33 by the end of 2005.

Qantas' domestic budget carrier Jetstar, which competes with low-cost rival Virgin Blue , is already moving to an all A320-200 fleet of 23 177-seat aircraft by May, replacing 14 Boeing 717-200 planes which carry up to 125 passengers.

pity!
